Tuna trolling

Distance and speed for trolling the jetheads and daisychains for tuna

I know how far back to put out jethead on a LR boat, nmice and tight, maybe 3-4 wakes back.
But on my own PB, it's a new thing. was wondering,

A; how far do you put your jigs back, I'll be trolling on both corners and have a flatline for down the middle. Or can hook the flatlines on the corners and shotgun in the middle..or???

B: how fast do you troll??? Will have only jets and daisy... not putting out Rap's and youzuris.

Thanks!

Troll Spread

Don't prefer daisey stuff,

Speed about 6.5 - 7
Do I want to cover water - faster
or work where I am - slower

I use Zuri's on the corners in flatline clips, back about 30ft
they outfish everything else.

P/B Maurader in the middle, off center, edge of prop wash, 10 ft back
I can see it from the back of the boat. Easy in easy out - mabe Blue Fin Tuna

Outrigger stuff on the outside edge of the bow wake, white water.
Drop em back, crank em up till they bounce out of the water. drop back till they stay in.
After a while you recognise the line angle coming off the outrigger.
I switch these a lot, darker colors early lighter later
I keep a log on what got bit on each hookup and use that info

I want the troll lines out of the way for bait fish asap. Yell at crew

Mabe right, my preference

My go-to spread is what I have confidence in. A black/green Zuk feather on one corner, a zuchini broomtail Zuk jig on the other corner. Both of those out on the 4th wake. A cedar plug in the middle about 2 wakes, and a cd 14 green mack/chrome Rapalla also in the middle on the third wake. This is usually about 6kts.

If I need to troll a little faster I'll substitute the Rapala with another jig. If there's Yellow Fin Tuna around I like a small Marauder. If albies I'll add another black/purple or a mexi flag depending on if they show a preference for darks or brights. I'll also drop all jigs back another wake and run 8 kts or so.

I've also had days when they really want to bite the cedar plugs. In that case I'll run two feathers outside and two plugs in the middle. I have great confidence in the wood so I always like to have one in the spread. My last two trips I even caught yellows on the wood.

I probably have a dozen jet heads and spinner jets that I cant even remember the last time they got wet. Maybe its time to break em out.
