| Timing is right--
With the chickens hitting the decks, and posts now about the good bad and ugly of our SD fleet thought I would post a few reminders for those of you heading out on charters or open party fishing.
First and foremost--Listen to "The Speech" on the way out. Oh yeah, for those of you that know it all, spend your time chatting with your friends, rig up your arsenal, pop the top on a beer--Don't listen, but then don't expect the Captain to save your ass in an emergency.
All boats are different-so that means the safety equipment is in a different location, or works different then the one you saw once before. Pay attention to what is said, and WHO the crew are.
Also in "The Speech". What you need to know to improve your chances at catching fish. For those of you again who know it all, chat with your buddy, make the comment about what "you" used 2 seasons ago that worked much better than what the Captain is telling everyone.
PAY ATTENTION to the "DO'S and DON'TS". Why? the Captain knows his boat, if he says "don't fish the slide" DONT. Period. There is a reason. What some don't take into consideration is each boat will slide differently. The captain is trying to prevent the proverbial clusterfuck in the stern so that we can all fish and not waste what could have been a good bite untangleing the macrame that you created because YOU DIDN"T LISTEN.
If the skipper says "DONT FISH THE LIGHT LINE". Why? He is trying to allow all the passengers catch fish and not get cut off by your light line and you running around the boat 4 times, then everyone taking a seat while you try to get the fish to the boat, which inevitably is lost due to hook pull because you had the damn fish on for an hour. If you want to fish light line, ASK then follow the reccomendation.
Trolling rotation--Everybody get your ass to the stern and take your turn. Is this because it is so fun we only allow you a portion of the time on the ride? NO. It brings the fish to the boat, it is a job that we all need to do, make the best of it but don't say "I DON'T TROLL" because you want to throw in on top of the trollers to get a bait fish. Deal with it skippy, due the time. After all we did it for you.
Be courteous at the rail. Even though I am an old lady, (or a kid, or a newbie--fill in the blank) I paid JUST AS MUCH AS YOU DID. Let me down the rail when I come your way. I will do the same for you.
RACK YOUR ROD--But not in my spot or in the garbage can. You had your rods racked when you got on the boat, KEEP THEM THERE. That way, they are in one place, secure and not in everyone else's way.
and finally, for those that have any questions
LISTEN TO THE CAPTAIN AND CREW.

Excellent advice for the folks that like to fish the Party Boats. For me, alot of the issues you speak of are why I no longer fish Party Boats.
