trolling for yellows

ok so im wondering whats the best way to troll rapala magnums for yellows ? ive been told that you have to troll them with a torpedo sinker 5-6 feet ahead of the lure so it dosent jump out of the water.... is this true ? also is it better to keep the treble hooks or swap them out for tuna hooks ?

I don't think you should have a problem with them skipping.

Re: trolling for yellows

I troll the Rapala Magnums off the back of the Navy ships. They never skip until we hit about 9 Knots and that's with the rod 17 feet off the water. Just how fast was you planning on trolling them anyway? I think the above guys are right...tie the thing on the end of your line and go for it.

Most swim great some dont. You can tweak the bill a little to tune them
but it never worked for me.If they swim you them tell you lose them-if they dont swim bottom of the bucket they go.
