Nothing lasts forever.
Newell stock bearings go quick. As far as my experience tells me, Newells are good for local fishing, but other reels with a one piece frame are a much better choice for bigger fish. I have seen newells frame tweak on bigger fish while the saltist worked flawlessly through the bite.

As far as newells "casting forever," it's really the rod/caster that determines the cast, very rarely will the reel be the determining variable in a cast.(bad cast controll adjustments, bent frame, bad spool adjustment ect.)

Get a saltist. If you dont like it sell it to me.

Re: Saltist; Toruim; or Newell

Not to start an internet fight, but I can cast just as well with my Saltist 40 hi-torque as with my brother's newell.
I don't like the newells for that stupid clicking sound they make when you reel in.

Also, I'm going to pickup another Saltist this week. Going to get Saltist 30 and fill it with 30lb spectra and a 100 yds of 30lb P-Line to fish the surface iron with.

As for reliability, I fished my Saltist 40 a lot last season and I had to replace the drag washers cause the got sticky when buttoned down.

Just my $0.02 Very tough reels for the money.

Re: Saltist; Toruim; or Newell

Like I posted before, I'm going with the Saltist 30 spooled with 30lb spectra and then 100 yds of 30 lb mono. Going to put it on a Calstar 900M and to be used to fish the surface iron maybe bait for fun if the fishing is wide open.

Re: Saltist; Toruim; or Newell

saltist 40 with straight 30lb mono, spectra isn't necessary, infact it annoys me.

seeker 670 and any line such as ande, pline, izor, or whatever your line preference is. all that fancy spectra and flourocarbon crap isn't necessary for the 30lb line class.

have watched countless fish caught on rental rods with straight 25lb ande so keep that in mind
