Saltist is a very nice reel for the money.

Re: Saltist; Toruim; or Newell

Saltist in the Low 4.9 speed.
Plenty of speed for the iron.
More torque.
Doesn't have plastic sideplates.
Good drags.
All together a better reel, but not by much. You get a great reel with either choice.
Gotta remember we get alot of reel for 180 bucks these days. Close enough to the full on aluminum models to make these great bang for your bucks options.

Just buy whatever you think looks best. I've seen both saltists and toriums take 60-80 tuna at the lupe.

Newell is a good casting reel, but the drag is the same as a jigmaster, but you don't really need more for barracuda and local yellows.

I own four 20's and two 30's...as well as a two newell's...Never used a Saltist...

My vote is for the Thorium's....with the drag upgrade...

newell cast the farthest, saltist have the best out of the box performance, torium are very similar to the saltist except it has more plastic parts. I have tried both and liked the saltist more. I own a newell and love it. get the p series if you want a newell. more expensive but really woth it. overall they are all good reels, really comes down to personal preference and what you are using it for.

Re: Saltist; Toruim; or Newell

I've got the Torium 20, Saltist 30 and Saltist 50 and would trade the Torium for another Saltist in a heartbeat. Never fished a Newell so no input on that one.
