Did you see Sundays episode of Inside Sportfishing?

The crew was fishing the keys using 90 gram butterfly jigs catching 60 lb amberjacks... I know it's debatable as to how good they are here in our less than tropical waters.. but with this being yoyo season, their action might be effective... I think I'm going to give it a try. It looks like a lot of it's productivity comes from the technique of the angler (quick pumps with 1 crank per pump). What's the consensus around here?

They work. The Shims are pretty pricey. But there are knockoffs that work just as well.

One word. NOAHS.

Yup, was watching that right before the Bears game came on. That dude called it on the first drop. One pump per crank REALLY fast. That older guy got hit on the way down and took him awhile to get his big amber in.

Did you hear it when he pushed the air out of them? Cool

From what I have seen the technique works.

I don't know how long I could fish like that though.

Other than some small differences in color, they look a lot like Yellowtail (yes I know they're all in the jack family). I wish I could go out to wreck alley outside mission bay and nail ambers like they were on their structure in FL...

They work for me. Expensive, yes. Can you catch the same w/ the oldschool tackle and techniqe, Probably? Bottom line is I have fun fishing it, its light wieght and comfortable. I,ve hung big YTs at Pyrimid cove and it pissed off the calicos all most every drop (when we found em). just my .02
