Fishing Chit Chat Thread, spectra to mono[local fishing] which knot? in Fishing Related; After practicing and working on my technique i can tie the albright faster than the pena....
I just use a uni knot to tie the mono end and then wrap the spectra 12-14times then rewrap, comes out great for me and the mono or spectra always breaks before the knot on a spring scale
Lot of guys here in Japan, especially those casting poppers for tuna and dorado, are doing this connection.
I have used it, and it slides though the guides fine for casting applications, but I am still a Bimini/Worm guy, since 2003.
It is extremely important to coat this connection liberally with waterproof superglue that will adhere to spectra material.
It is not possible to "pull the mono/fluoro out" if done correctly. But like any knot/joint system, you can break it.
I think it is good to check out various knots/splices, and test them against the ones your use presently.
I practice, practice, practice. I pull & test my knots.and do the minimum to let me tie fast.
The bimini and all the fancy loops are nice.. But when the fish are biting, i don't have time to pull out tools.. The fast doubled albright with 12 turns seems to hold to max with 40 and 50 lb line. I tie just 6 turns if the fish are smaller and i don't expect a real long fight. Tie some knots and put some weights on the end like 30 lbs and let the knots cook .. see how well you tie. and practice the form for tying knots. It helps a whole bunch.
sounds like some good advice right there no matter which know you use.
If I could add one thing.... its important that you have confidence in your knot. Otherwise, you will never pull hard enough to land a big fish in a timely manner.......and we all know what happens when the fish stays in the water too long.......right?
(size of fish X length of fight = loss ratio.....yup, fuzzy math!)

Hey, yes you need confidence to know your knots will hold. That your hooks won't bend. that the guides don't have a nick, to cut your line .....and especially that your drags are smooth.,,, nothing like a little chatter to ruin your day.heheheh...
When you know you have this all together you can pull ... and when you break the line.. hurry up and re-tie while the fish are still here or the boat is still stopped.
