tragic ...feel sorry for the Family...makes for a sad holiday....
the motor was missing..i wonder if they wrapped the prop, and pulled the motor to fix it, thinking they could get it back on before they got bashed by the swells and fell overboard....if the boat would have gotten turned over, it would have sunk out being aluminum....????????????

shoulda checked the conditions and shoulda had a pfd... I'm on a yak and although I don't always wear it, it's near enough to fall out close to me if I happen to flip... Thoughts go to their families....

If any of you guys ever fall in the water and get seperated from your boat, take off your boots or shoes first. full boots will pull you under. removing pants and jacket will also help you float. swimming to shore naked is better than not. very tragic.

Good advice SDFishKiller. One thing we learn in the Marines for water survival, is to use your pants as a flotation device. Tie the legs together at the bottom and put the knot behind your neck. then pull the waist of the pants out of the water emptying them and with the waist wide open scoop in the air back into the water. It will trap enough air to keep you afloat. You will need to scoop a couple of times an hour but it's better than drowning.
Too bad about this mess

Also boys, you can make a PFD outta your pants. Learned this in the Army during drown proofing for water borne ops. You tie the bottom of your pant legs individually in a knot forming two compartments. Next, you can either exhale into the waist band or pull them over your head into the water to fill with air. Not perfect but will provide inflation.
As for hyopthermia, I will have at least a 3mm spring on board to pull on quickly if time permits, often a full.
SAFETY SAFETY, tragic X-mas for these families.
EDIT spelling

Steve (Buttman) and I were out Sat. night and believe we saw those guys hoop netting near Zuniga, on the bay side. Conditions were pretty dangerous with the swell coming into the bay(4-6 ft). The wind and rain where just starting when we left between 8-8:30 and thats when we both think we saw them. I remember them because there where only 2 boats other than us in that area. The other boat left before we did. People really need to respect mother nature as she is very unforgiving. I feel for their families as this was an avoidable accident. Bugman

Too bad about this mess | Yep, they taught us the same thing in the Navy, I tried it and it works. You could stay on top of the water for a long time using this method.

The second guy is unfortunately not found and is most likely lobster food and we'll not hear much about it until he floats. My condolences to the families involved in this tragic event, but we as a community can benefit from this situation , and now is the time to prepare for next season. I 'll post more on this preparrededness in a new thread shortly.

It's sad to think that bob and I were possably the last pepole to see them alive.
They were fishing the jetty just east of where you can cross over it by the light and were only 20ft or so from the rocks with the wind and swell pushing them toward the rocks. I heard on the news this morning that the one found left behind a wife, 6 year old and a 3 month old baby.
very tragic no matter what time of year it is.
My prayers to both the familis and friends,
