| Winding On New Line?
I saw an old thread that brought up some thoughts/????? Regarding line twist. Lines twist often plagues my little freshwater spinning reels coming right of the filler spool. Leading to the questions: Which way should the line come off the filler spool ? I use the pencil through the spool technigue alot. Should the line come over the top off the filler spool or the bottom? How about the filller spool in a bucket of water technique. Should the line come off the filler spool clockwise or counter clock. ?
It just sucks when a never fished spool of fresh 4 pound or 6 pound line jumps off the spool every time you open the bail. Hell , it sucks no matter what line size is twisted. What are ways to prevent new line twist?

In the case of conventional reels if you're spools are both horizontal there should be no line twist, spooling from top or bottom shouldn't matter either.
In the case of spinning reels, I've always been told to wind it on label side up.
Don't know if this is Man Law....but it's always worked for me.

For spinners, lay the spool flat, wind on several yards of line off the end of the spool..
Then grip the line with yer hands a few feet apart.
bring yer hands together. If the line twirls itself together, reverse the spool.
OR...
if yer on a boat just trail a hunnert or so yards off the back for a bit with nothing attached. That'll straighten 'er right out.

Label up seems to be the match between most lines and spinning reels. After loading I have my son pull a hundred yards or so down the driveway and drop to the ground. Hold the line between your fingers and retrieve the line walking down to the end will take out any line twist. I do not believe you can match a 10 size spinning reel to a filler spool. Even loaded properly you will have some line twist. I use the "trail behind the boat in the water" method if the opportunity presents itself. It is the best as the water holds tension on the line when you retrieve.
