Re: Paddy Spotting Binoculars

You can buy a expensive pair of bino's but if your not on a stable platform, in calm seas or going down swell they're not going to work very well IMO. I recently bought a pair if Fujinon techno-stabis 14x40. They are awesome but on a small boat you can only use them as conditions dictate.

hmmm I'm going to assume your glacier bay cat is alot more stable than my 21' striper V. How calm are you talking? 1-2' swells? 1-3'?

It's more like how close together. Gradual up and down and side to side is o.k.

They would work better on a flybridge where you're sitting down and have more visability.

on a sidenote, how do you like your glacier bay? I've heard good things about them. Have you had a deep V before? Comparisons?

Re: Paddy Spotting Binoculars

I used a pair one time along with my Dad's Steiners 7X50 and I thought the Steiners were way better. The stabalizing feature didn't seem to do that much for me. But that was me.

Re: Paddy Spotting Binoculars

I like mine. I like them a lot.

10x50's vs 10x30's looking for paddys? Not much of a difference. The only difference is exit pupil and considering that don't mean SHIT most of the time, save your money. As to the image stab, there, you might have some issues with glass that costs about ten times the price. Maybe more. No shit fellers. 10x. Don't ferget, Canon is in Irvine. Easy warranty work if you need it. Mine still work great.

$400 is way high. Try B&H Photo. Sometimes they offer discounts too.

Good luck.

Re: Paddy Spotting Binoculars

I'd rather be up high with a pair of good polarized sunglasses on then standing on a deck with $200 bucks on each eye. Never realized how many patty we were missing until I climbed on top of the hardtop.

I love my boat (everybody says that about their boat).
I fish offshore 95% of the time and run home is shitty weather 95% of the time. My cat rides pretty damn good in the slop. I though long and hard before settling on this boat and don't regret my decision at all.

I love to fish marlin and really need a fly bridge. With the motors so far outboard it makes for a pretty dirty wake, which makes getting the jigs in clean water difficult. Sure would like to be able to overnight at the islands and have a more kid friendly boat too.

Getting to be time to move up. I'm sure going to miss the ride though.

I've tried using 7x50 bino's on my boat and there was just no way to keep them locked on a target. The Fujinon are 14 power, you can see so far. I dig'em
