butterfly / knife jigs

Just started using these jigs, but I am not sure what weight to use in what water depth. These jigs cut through the water alot better then the egg weights I use when bottom fishing. What is your take on it?

Have you tried them in shallower water like 40 - 60 feet or even a horizontal presentation?

THanks

There are basically three kinds of knife jigs and three presentation types.

Click the image to open in full size.

Long skinny jigs - vertical presentation.

Fat heavy jigs - vertical or horizontal presentation.

Smaller jigs (like a mega bait) - vertical or horizontal presentation.

I like the surface action of the lighter jigs and the colors are great so even a Yellowtail wil hit them. Just have to try them out. They swim different than iron, so you have to experiment with speed and such. Chuam uses them also. Check with him.
