| Rookie at ocean fishing
I have been looking at all the chit chat going on and reading a lot of the forums, and have finally figured out that I do not know jack-shit about deep sea fishing. I retired from GM 2 years ago and decided to come to Carlsbad to enjoy the good life. I bought a used 21 ft. Striper, and have been out a numerous amount of times with some success and a lot of failures. Been wanting to go out to the 209 and the 181 to do Yellowtail fishing, but do not have any ideas on where or how to get the mackerels and/or whatever else I may need. Poles and reels I have, but knowledge is sorely lacking. I know this is a lot of questions to ask, but if someone wants to go out with a rookie and teach him a few things. the ride will be for free. Bring your own food and drinks, as you probably wouldn't eat what I make. I would rather go during a weekday, and we would leave from the Oceanside Harbor. The dates are open. make it easy on yourself.

You're better off going out with another skipper on their boat and having them show YOU the ropes rather than you taking them on your boat.
I guarantee you'll learn alot more.

| Re: Rookie at ocean fishing I did not think that avitar would live longgunz . Being in your shoes last August when I bought my first boat, I would have to say your best bet is to ride on someone elses boat first. This time of year can be hectic on the water and the last thing you need to do is piss off another boater because you are un-aware you are doing something wrong. There are some people around here that may know just a little about fishing too.
BTW welcome to the site |

| Re: Rookie at ocean fishing Any time you are ready to hook up, let me know. I have one question for you. Will Yellowtail's hit anchovies or are they just after mackerel, and lures.
Thanks
Bob
