| Re: how do I keep fish fresh for three days
In LA bay, in July, we burn 20-25lb of ice a DAY between 3 100qt chests. We bounce food/ drinks as needed, and that1st chest goes fastest. The 2nd chest is mostly food stuff. We pre-freeze everything, and the food can keep for 8 days. The 3rd ice chest is basically fish. Fillet(skin on.) and bag tight. Salt the ice lightly, and swap out, drain as you get low. As you salt the ice, or use a little fertilizer on it.....( it works 2 times as good as salt!!!!) The fish will almost freeze, and it will be in good shape for up to a week, no sweat. DO NOT brerak the cycle of ice on the fish. Let the water go warm, eat all the ham for sandwiches, etc. But keep the fish surrounded by COLD!! If no ice is available, do not drain the cold water from the chest. It is good insulation. Wet fillets beat heat treated fillets any day of the week, save the fish at all cost. If there is no option, give it away to the poor, and catch more. In 1 day, with some work, you can still salvadge a trip. Better than wasting 4 days worth of fish for pride.
