How To: Rigging Tuna Feathers- Straight Tie

Straight Tie Method.

I like this method because you don't need anything fancy like beads and crimpers. Very popular method on the San Diego Boats.

Pull line off the rod just like your tying a hook on.

Thread it through the top of the feather.

Now take a Double hook (the kind that aren't welded in the middle) and spread it apart enough to get a 200lb. swivel up in the eye.

Using a San Diego Knot tie it off to the swivel.

Re: Rigging Tuna Feathers

Great tutorial Tim. But I have a hard time getting away from leadered lures, so as to change out quickly if needed.

I guess it's just my preference. Age might be a factor also.

As I told my kid - I've been doing it this way a long time.

Re: Rigging Tuna Feathers

Yet another way to rig a feather. You got a tee shirt too. Maybe I'll give you a special sticker

That is how I tie mine as well. Less failure points, less shit dragging in the water, etc... Nice and clean. The swivel shit is for folks who can't cut and re-tie in under 15 seconds.
