"The SBMT is going to happen. I can’t believe how fast things are starting to happen.
Donations are already coming in, people are committing to the signup and best yet people who won’t fish the tournament are volunteering to help because the cause is a good one.
The stuff I can tell you about so far is;
Division 1 25ft to 30ft with less then an 8 ½ ft beam.
The spirit of the event is a trailerable boat tournament so there may be room for negotiation on a boat per boat basis.
Max per boat 4

Division 2 under 25ft with
Max per boat 3

We will have 30 boats per class, so a total of 60boats. Trophies to fifth place.

The event is a mixed species with points given according to the type fish caught. Marlin release the max points, but point for Tuna, and Mahi Mahi. This is still being worked out.
The idea is if no Marlin are caught we still have real winners and not have a drawing for the places.

The Eevent will be out of Dana point tentative date Sept 23-24th.

Cost per boat is $150.00

This tournament is a serious event and will get some coverage. Anyone wanting to help sponsor this event will be given the propper credit for there donations. First of all this is a fundraiser for Billfish research.The goal is to raise money for research that may effect the amount of billfish taken by comercial fisherman.

Some of the great Copmpanies on the sponsor board so far are Everol, COPA Lures, GS Custom and Big Mikes lures (of course)
There are going to be Rod/reel combos, birds, tagsticks, many lures and lure packs, gift certificates and much more.

And a special thanks to Stan at SCMO, the official hiding place of the SBMT organization. "

This is going to be a kickass event!!!! Also, the dates are not final and will probobly be changed as the are the same as the Pesky tourny. Hope to see some of you at the tourny.

Hi Guys, If you wanted a application for the Small Boat Marlin Tournament, which all net proceeds go to billfish research let me know. If you have contacted me and did not get one then let me know I screwed up.
Out of Dana point Sept 23-24 marlin release but points for other species, Dorado, tuna, yellow tail.Two division 25-30 ft with a 8'7" or less beam and 18 ft to less then 25ft class. 30 boats per class.
Should be lots of door prizes. Website to come.

First early bird sign up drawing May 30th! Special drawing just for the guys signed up by then. I won't say what but not the rod/reel.

Just to make rules for division 1 more clear, if a boat is over wide or even a little longer we will rule if it is a trailerable boat. In other words if it is a boat type that is normally trailerd we will except it.

For those of you entered or who are enterning the tourny, I spoke to Mark W. and he agreed to do a seminar at the shop on "Small Boat Marlin Fishing ". This will be for the So Cal area and for the guys in the tourny. He's got a ton of experiance in fishing for them localy. Not sure on the date yet but I'm thinking somewhere around 2 to 4 weeks before the tourny so if anyone relizes they need to re-rig their boat or purchase extra gear for the tourny they got time to do it. Hope to see some BD'ers there.

Hi Guys, the 30th is the deadline for the first earlybird drawing. Only applications in by then are elligable.
The prize pool just got bigger by two limited Guy Harvey prints.(only 100 of them) So far, more prizes then entrants.

Keep up the great work Mike as your getting some killer prizes. Not sure whats up with these guys as I had 36 yes votes to my BD post on who would be intrested in a small boat marlin tourny about six months ago ??? Anyway, my app will be sent tonight so I can get a shot at the early entry prize drawing.
