Dropper loop question

I know what a dropper loop is and its function. I also know that you can make it yourself, or buy a fancy set up. SOOooooo what is my question...glad you are interested. What is a reverse dropper loop. I have searched, but can not find a picture or how to link.

Re: Dropper loop question

Never used one but I beleive it's where you reverse the hook & weight. Hopefully someone that really know will chime in.

That's exactly right. Instead of the bait preceding the weight, it follows it as you drift and the weight drags across the bottom. I found this online

"There are some basic methods for pier fishing, plus some advanced techniques. The more common rigs are simple bait rigs such as the dropper loop or double dropper loop, with hooks in loops and a weight at the bottom. Reverse dropper loops are also used to allow a light bait to flutter around right on the bottom. A reverse dropper loop consists of a hook tied to the end of the line and a weight suspended from a dropper loop about 18 inches up the line."

Good question.

Re: Dropper loop question

Dropper loop has the weight on the bottom tag end of the main line and the hooks on the 'dropper loops' that you tie in the line.

Reverse dropper loop is where you tie a dropper loop in the line and then instead of attaching a hook to it, you attach a weight and then tie the hook to the trailing tag end of the main line.

Re: Dropper loop question

Try tying this dropper loop. It is heads and tails better than the one that everyone uses......

It is a lot easier to tie than a standard dropper loop. I also tested this one vs. the standard dropper loop and the standard dropper loop broke way before this one did on the spring scale tests. This one (new zealand plait) was about an 80-90% line strength and the standard dropper was closer to 60-70%.
