Read below for the IGFA rules regarding hooks
H. HOOKS AND LURES 1. When using an artificial lure with a skirt or trailing material, no more than two single hooks may be attached to the line, leader, or trace. The hooks need not be attached separately. The eyes of the hooks must be no less than an overall hook's length (the overall length of the largest hook used) apart and no more than 12 inches (30.48 cm) apart. The only exception is that the point of one hook may be passed through the eye of the other hook. The trailing hook may not extend more than a hook's length beyond the skirt of the lure. A photograph or sketch showing the hook arrangement must accompany a record application.
2. Gang hooks are permitted when attached to plugs and other artificial lures that are specifically designed for this use. Gang hooks must be free swinging and shall be limited to a maximum of three hooks (either single, double, or treble, or a combination of any three). Baits may not be used with gang hooks. A photograph or sketch of the plug or lure must be submitted with record applications.
| This is how I would rig up if I was to do Mikes Tourney. I am not participating but have friends that I have been fishing with for the last month teaching and learning more about halibut bounceball. It works.
The main reason I am posting this is to give those of you that purchased bounceball rigs a chance. This is only a rig. The bounce, speed, and areas are for you to figure out. You are a REAL fisherman that goes and finds your own fish right? Tools needed The lighter is incase you tear the plastic you can melt it back together. The wire is a finish nail that I had in the garage. It has a small flat end on it... Cut the plastic to size Fit it to the skirt. I want the tail near the end of the skirt so when it's swimming the skirt is being moved to make it look like a squid swimming Snell the nail 2.5'-3' of florocarbon leader Thread the plastic Come out either on top or bottom. NOT ON THE SIDE Tie on the hook. Shown is a 2/0. I have rigs made to 6/0... Feed hook in and settle it in the middle of the plastic Add beads to fill the head Slide the skirt down and put it in the head of the hoocie. You might have to trim around the swimbait to make it slide in further.
Tie a loop in the end and attach to dodger. I am rigging up 20 of these rigs as they might be a one time use. Maybe carry some superglue with you to fix up the plastics after they are torn. The skirts can be reused...
There is a lot of things that will bite this rig, IE BSB, WSB, Yellowtail, Sandbass, Sculpin, Sandsharks, Leopard sharks, eels, etc... So I am sure if I only made up 5 for a whole days fishing that I would be out of plastic before midday...
All parts were bought from Noah's and they take phone orders (858) 496-9277
If you win using my tip I claim 1/3 of the winning ammount!
Jason

Nice write-up. Thanks. Not fishing the Thanksgiving tourney, but plan on fishing the hali's this winter & spring as much as possible.
Do you add any bait, dead or alive and/or scent to that rig, or just drag it like that? The bounce ball is completely new to me. Is it rigged basically like a dropper loop, just with heavier, round weight? I've only fished the dropper and the sliding egg sinker (aka "halibut rig") for halibut.
Thanks for your help.

I know your wife wouldn't agree but, you need to be off work more often so you can do more lecturing.
Nice write up, thanks -JIM
