actually...Allstar no longer makes their blanks. The new Californian Calico Special blanks are made by Premier...the same folks that make the Dan Hernandez inshore rod.

The Allstar blanks were much better IMO.

I picked up a calico-type rod at Squidco for $39 I think; been fishing it hard for the past year and love it. (PacHawk 7' XH 12-30 lb... something like that) Just sayin'

I have an old-school Calico Special and it can set a hook like a ton of bricks.

By the way... Shimano's Terremar Inshore series rods are also a Pac blank.

I was impressed by them when I checked them out at Turners. The warranty is nice especially for the money.
