Exclamation New passport requirements

Ok I've heard the rumors and now I've spent a couple hours looking into it and it's confirmed. As of Dec. 31 2006 you MUST have a passport to travel to and return from mexico. Even if you only go to TJ for a day. I'm posting some links to the State Dept. and others that have info. As far as sportboats go leaving San Diego & fishing mexican waters it's not clear on requirements. I have contacted the State Dept. for more info about this matter. As soon as I get something firm from them I'll post it.

Re: New passport requirements

yes it's true. The custom guys at SI told us that by the end of next year we would need passports to fish Mexican waters. Oh well- I got mine.

Re: New passport requirements

better get in line now to get your passport if you don't have one.
Took a friend about 2 months to get one. Its in the mail she was told.
seems they lost it somewhere.... thats the Federal Government for you.
Told normal process time is a month, but whats normal?

Like everything else, they WON't fucking 'handle' this with any other entity that fills there pockets (ie; commercial, sporties, blah blah blah). But they sure don't mind pretending this is all about security with our little tiny boats that just go out for a day of fishing. Sooner or later the boat retailers and fishing retailers will have to get involved when business drops off and the reason is because it's almost not worth it anymore between Customs check-in/check-out/passports/etc, Coasties inspections, DF&G inspections, threats of closing areas, closing species that need preservation like a whole in the head (ya, lings are really rare around here now, huh? - fucking rocket scientists - all of them).

/rant off

I feel better.

2-3 months is normal.

But get this, you can PAY EXTRA if you want it faster. Yet another gov scam.

Re: New passport requirements

More homeland insecurity BS. Our borders are overflowing with illegals that they are willfully ignoring but citizens are having to jump through flaming hoops.

Let's see....illegals camping out in front of Home Dump looking for work: nope, not gonna bother THEM. Fisherman coming back from mexican waters after fishing offshore and never touching land: yep, fuck with them some more. Are the fucking inmates running the asylum?

The vast majority of the "illegals" out in front of Home Depot and other laborer gathering sites are in fact legal. Most of them possess I-551 Lawfully Admitted for Permanent Residence or I-686 Work Authorizations. We frequently check.............just food for thought.
