Wink Opinions Please

O.K. the albacore reports have been good, the weather reports and forcasts have been good. I have a 21 ft cabo w/ a new 200hp yamaha hdpi. Just got my Coast Guard safty inspection sticker updated. I have a 100 gallon gas tank + 48gal worth of jerry tanks. I ran the boat 135mi round trip in 5ft+ seas two weeks ago and burned 70gal. I have two guys that are willing to split gas. I have about five years of boating experiance and my two buddies that are going with have about 30 combined years of boating experiance. I would never think of going 90+ NM due west, but since the albies are more south than west, I would run the 40 or so miles to Mexico if I just had to get to shore. I figure I can make the run down, fish for four hours and make it home without running out of gas. Am I crazy for taking my boat this far from home?

I've seen guys way out in an 18' tin boat. Just keep an eye on the weather and try to tag along with another BDr.

Depending on the weather you should totally go! I fished my old 21 striper down to the lower 500, 238, 295, D220, and 1010 all the time.

How about leaving from the Coral? about 25-30 miles closer? Kind of down hill on the way back. I'm only speaking theoretically since I don't know JACK SHIT about boating!!!

Yo AC you meant the grounds are only about 25-30 miles from the Coral, right? From the boarder to the Coral is about 70 miles and from the Coral to the ground about another 30-40 miles. It would be much closer from the Coral IMO. As for the original question I think you should be fine in a 21 CC when are you thinking of running? My brother and I are running sat night to fish on sunday if you want to run with us you would be more than welcome. Weather permitting of course, but I think we should be fine the forecast is for some wind tomorrow settling down sat night and 10 knts or less for sunday. Not to much swell to worry about.

Actually if the fish are at the Dumper, then its closer to leave from Pt Loma (85NM) than from the Coral. (93NM)

Corral is at 31.50 & 116.40 tuna grounds at approx 31.25 & 118.15, your still looking at a good 85+nm to get there.

Dude, if ya gotta ask the question, I think ya know the answer.... stay home.

Ron;
I meant from the Coral to the area where the fish have been is about 30-40 miles closer leaving from the Coral then from San Diego. I plugged the points into the site:

Yes you are right I did the calculation to the closest known bite point of tempbreak and it was about 25miles closer.

The fish we were on yesterday were a little east of the Dumping Grounds. I did my waypoint selector deal and the Coral was only 4 miles closer from that area. I did not hear the reports from the guys further in.
