| A legal question about dogs(sea dogs)
O.K.....Had a little problem this evening with a mean dog........
Was fishin the breakwall in L.B. solo and a dog was following me around.....It was a small one prob 125-150lbr.....I hooked into a calico and when I went to bounce em the dog jumped up from underneath the boat and grabbed it in mid air and hit the bow of my boat.......
Took about 20ft of line (not hooked just had the bass in his mouth)....I thumbed the spool and broke him off before he fucked up my drag washers.....
This thing didn't just eat the bass it started throwing it up in the air and slappin it around......
15 minutes go by and I was fishin so I didn't pay attention......It shows up again right next to my boat just sitting there like it was waiting for me to hook into another fish....Kept diving under the boat and barked at me a few times........
I got a little nervous.......It looked like it was going to jump on my boat....Not good in a 12 foot aluminum......I lifted up the hatch in the bow of my boat and pulled out my revolver........
I put the trolling motor on high and took off, it followed me around till I left an hour later.......I was thinkin about slappin it in the head with my rod but didn't want to piss it off........If it jumped on my transom I would probably sink.......
My question is.......I definitely felt threatened......I saw a little girl get bit on the davies locker dock a long time ago and it almost took her finger off..........
Seal bombs are illegal.......Does Pepper Spray work on these things???????.....Is that a humane/legal form of self defense?????.....
I know the odds are low that its gonna attack me but when i'm out there by myself in the middle of the night, pitch black and no one there to save me if something happens.........The situation is a little hairy..........Warren

Seal bombs are not illegal. Quote: |
All marine mammals are protected and managed by the federal government, under the stewardship of the National Marine Fisheries Service (the State has no jurisdiction). The 1994 Amendments to the Marine Mammal Protection Act gave property owners and government officials the authority to protect private and public property by deterring sea lions, provided the acts do not result in serious injury or death to the animal. Recreational fishermen can deter sea lions from damaging their gear and catch, again provided that the acts of deterrence do not result in serious injury or death to the animal. Methods may involve preventing access, acoustic devices, seal bombs, boat hazing, spraying with water, or lightly prodding. One cannot break skin, or direct an act at the head or eyes of the sea lion, or direct acts at seal lions that are hauled out on rocks or beaches. Firearms, crossbows, spearguns, harpoons, javelins, arrows, spears, or other similar devices are prohibited. Relocating sea lions or offering them tainted fish or other consumables is also prohibited.

I thought seal bombs were illegal as well. I don't think I want to get boarded with a pack of those things on my boat. I prefer the conk 'em on the head and skin 'em method of deterrence.

Sea bombs are different from M-80's. They sink fast. M-80's float.

On another note, you do have a right to defend yourself or others aboard your vessel when faced with grievous bodily harm or death. If you have an "attacking" sealion who's actively biting people on your vessel, I know I'd be able to make a pretty good argument for shooting it....

This means to me a wrist rocket and marbles to the ass, to sting them is good.
Time to tune the rocket up
What exactly are seal bombs....is this a concussion type of device??
