Red face Have you ever caught a record or near record fish?

I was reading a post from someone about a flyrod line class record and it made me think of a couple things.

1. I know someone (initials are kurt) who caught what would have been a state record LMB in Colorado in the 70's and before it could even make the local papers and certs a guy caught the new state record 3 days later, same lake .

2. The line class records for many fish are being broken at a rapid pace. Especially for flyrod and species like bass. Age and gender records are going poof too.

What's your story? Or did you eat that record fish by accident?

Cool Tilapia

Not a glamour fish, but I caught and ate a tilapia 2 oz larger than the CA record on the River. It was smaller than the AZ record, though. When I weighed it at Fisher's Landing (AZ), the guy told me they had a bigger one come in recently. I looked it up later, after I ate it (not very tasty).

Call me full of shit but I have eaten about 5 world records for the junior catagory. It was only until after I ate the fish that I checked the site to find out that the fish were records. I even gave a few away down in Mexico to the guys on the dock. Now all that I have to do is go out again and get those fish again.

I love to fly fish and I know that I have caught line class world record calicos, for 12# the record is like 4 or 5 #'s. Recently with all the big bones I can gurantee a new world bonie record on the fly. It will be either my bros who flick flies or myself, they caught a WR bonie about 1 month ago but they had no clue about the record until they check it out later. I really want the Yellowtail WR for 20# all you need is a 23lber and you're in the record books! That is very doable!

My dad had the LMB record at Lake Jennings at 16lbs 9.75oz. He caught the fish on a nest. He caught the male twice and finally had to stringer em' up the shore. The female moved in and bit a Lime glow plastic worm. He caught that bass back in 1986. The record stood for 20 years and fell earlier this year to Mike Long. Who better to have break the record than Mike Long, I mean how many lake records does he hold? Now the old man is on a mission to pull a record out of his new lake(palo verde). He fishes it productively 5 or 6 times a week. He's so die hard, I can't even get him to run out with me for the Yellowtail! He's too busy chasing that record bass.

I was looking at the 20lb tippet WR for Calicos and if I remember it was just over 4 lbs. I'm always looking for other flyfishers to try to break some records with. If any of you guys ever need another flinger let me know.
