Belize bonefish - tackle questions

My friend Peter(Tailbanger) is going to belize friday. Lucky fucker! Anyways, he needs some help figuring out fishing tackle to bring. Basically, he is staying at one of the small islands, and will be fishing for bonefish, permit, jacks, ect.....He isn't doing the deep sea thing, mainly just fishing the lagoons, reefs, and sand flats around the island. I don't know the exact island he is on, but maybe he'll chime in here later today.

the quesiton is what to use for the above mentioned fish. He is not a fly fisherman, so he would be using spinning tackle mostly. Anybody have any suggestions on what types of lures, jigs, terminal tackle he should pack up? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Terry

For bones he will probably be using some form of live bait on anything from 4-12lbs test depending on the fish. If he wants to target them on plastics, grubs in a variety of colors on leadies. Take a 20#(maybe a bigger reel just incase) outfit for hucking crocs and big top water plugs. If a can also double as a bigger bait rod in case he finds or catches anything worthy of being bait. That's the slim package you can add a much or as little as he wants.

Lots of luck let us know how it goes.

Take lots of bucktails, leadheads, small hooks, rubbercore sinkers, crankbaits (suspending or floating in small sizes), poppers, krockodiles, and sunscreen. I would take a spinning outfit in 6lb with a spare spool of 10lb, a 15lb rig. He should also take some 20-30lb fluoro for use as leader material for some of the toothy critters. If he has room a 20lb rig also. Silver rattletraps also work great for the cudas and jacks.
