Dropper loop question

I was using a store bought dropper loop rig in MB this weekend. I was starting by the bridge in the middle of the channel, casting it out, letting it hit bottom than letting it drag across the bottom while drifting. Is this the correct way to fish a dropper loop?

yeah, nothing wrong with dragging a dropper loop....but pre-rigged??? the drooper looper is one of the easiest knots to tie. check out a knot book and practice tying those at home. buying a pre rigged set up is a waste of cash! the dropper loop or the spider hitch are both good knots to know. if you plan on doing much fishing, you NEED to practice knot tying at home:

http://www.marinews.com/fishing/fk_main.htm

for doing the kind of fishing you were describing, a three way swivel set up also works really well and is better for inshore fishing. i mostly use the dropper in deeper water when i am fishing vertically with little to no drift. fast water will tend to make a dropper set up "spin" the bait, which is why you want a three way swivel to avoid line twist inshore.

another inshore technique you can use for either the dropper or the three way rig fishing is called *pounding sand* (best done with a three way, but you can use the dropper set up too). you simply let the weight hit the bottom and every few seconds raise and drop the weight on the bottom. this will stir the sand up and is a good hallibuttin technique. you need either a bit of current, or a wind drift to cover area. bouncing is better than dragging.

with no current, fish the dropper. let it hit bottom, and then a couple of cranks off the bottom should keep you in the zone and not have you losing gear in structure.

Thanks

Thanks for your help. I noticed on the dropper loop in the drawing that the hook stays in place. The one I was using slid up and down maybe 14" either way, and what I think was happening was, when I was dragging it across the bottom during the drift the hook would slid down level with the weight and was dragging the bottom along with the weight. Thanks again.

Here is a better dropper loop. Its called a New Zealand Plait. Its faster to tie and a lot stronger.

!

Wicked cool knot.

I will see how it hold up next time I go out. Quick to tie and the knot is relatively small.

thanks.

The one thing I have found about the knot is if you are tieing it on lighter line (30lb and less) you need to loop the line twice not once as in the first illustration. Almost like you're doing a normal dropper loop.

It is an awesome knot to know. I have tested it against a regular dropper loop and it holds up a lot better. It failed at about 80-90% versus 75% as the highest I could get a regular dropper to fail at. Surprisingly most of the droppers I tied failed from 50-60% of line strength.

I prefer the hook on the bottom,
with the weight in the dropper loop.
Better presentation.

Check your knot strength's at the Izor booth, at the Fuck All show
