BD Vs. ST Yellows 20-28#'s biting at Colonet

Just got off the phone with Capt. Mark Oronoz... he relayed the following:
He had a 1.5 day charter this weekend to Colonet. They fished yellows in the morning and caught 26 that were all big fish. All fish over 20#'s with the biggest at 28#'s. Due to weather conditions they didn't get to the Colonet mount until almost 8AM and the fish bit until 10:30AM. Big bonita mixed in the yellowtail schools. Hot ticket was the blue/white with flat glowback. Tady 7X scrambled egg and blue chrome. All fish caught yo yo at 100+ feet deep. The charter did not get a shot at the afternoon bite as they had to head back up the line. Mark would stop on a sonar mark, chum the fish and whammo. Apparently, lots of fish lost.

We will stay on Colonet the whole day for both an early and afternoon bite. We will anchor up at Salsuipuedes and the water temp inside is 3 degrees warmer than the last two years. We will be up close, shallow, and in the middle of the kelp beds. Last year Brad ZZZZ, Bill and Roxy were pulling 5# calicos from the kelp. On Sunday, we will swing out in 150' to load up on reds, then swing inside to 60 to 120 for assorted rockfish. We have caught 30# halibut on the inside. Mark says the weather looks really good for this coming weekend and the TB MOJO is working.

With our Team Competition, we should rack 100 yellows on the first day.

I gave Mark a heads up that this will be a rowdy crowd and he says; right on !!

We will have double prime rib for dinner on our trip.... yuuummmy.

Last year's Colonet yellows.......

I'm a little worried that we won't be able to get to the rail, I've seen some of these gals. They put up a mean defensive line.

I will never forget this. Bubba on the right gets bit by a nice Ling on the drop with a yoyo iron fising for Yellowtail. The Ling rocks him and breaks off. John on the left hooks a Yellowtail a few seconds later and his Yellowtail wrapped around the tag end of Bubbas break off and it held somehow. John brought the Yellowtail and Ling up. He got the jig and his Ling. Really cool.

Shit- After reading this who doesn't want to go! Anyone have #'s on Colonet. SpanishMac hooked me up with a Furuno 600 and I just had it installed so I'm itching to go test it.
Last season I only departed out of San Diego for my Mex runs but I want to get familiar with Marina Coral since it would make the runs more appealling to my better half and little ones. I'm fluent in Mex Spanish and know my way around- Any info on fishing Colonet and best place to launch if not Marina Coral is greatly Appreciated Thanks- Mark

Capt. Curt has the Hot BAIT at Noah's !!!

Make sure you stop by Noah's Tackle and see Capt. Curt before the ST vs. BD trip and pick up a couple of the blu/white/glowback Tadies. Also, pick up a couple of the scrambled egg glowbacks too.

Expect to be rocked, or cut off at least once, with the deep water yo yo. These are all big fish and really hard to control.

It really hurts when you run out of the "right" iron.

We will be fishing a straight 12 hours on Saturday, the morning and afternoon bite for yellows. There are also big bonita mixed in with the schools of yellows.

Better safe than sorry...........

Cool George. I dont even have any Salas 6X Scrambler's which is my fav, There all donated to the ocean floor. I need to get some. I got tons of b/w and dodo 6x and 6xjr too. Glow huh I guess that would be the Tady 4/0 glow back? I need to get some of those too in scrambled.

It does hurt when you run out of (The yoyo iron)....
