| where to camp and fish?
guys, looking for some good camping spots (within about 2 hours of LA)
where i can take the girlfriend and a few friends camping for a weekend. roughin it is OK. been to refugio multiple times but thinking maybe somewhere in the mountains or by a lake/river/stream (somewhere i can get my fish on) btw boat is not working at the moment so shore based fishing only. any suggestions are appreciated

Santee Lakes in Santee, Ca. (down here in S.D. County) is a good camp and fish place. Laid back and ( I would think) fairly uncrowded this time of year. Trout, bass, catfish, carp, bluegill etc. The northernmost lake is reseved for campers only, at least the last time I was there, and has good fishing with little pressure.

How about an ocean view with some surf fishing?
South Carlsbad State Beach: South Carlsbad SB
My house in Encinitas overlooks this beach - it's a gem.

I guess it would depend on how many meat sockets?
San O campground, near the nuclear power plant is very beachy.
Lake Casitas has good beef jerky at the country store, and the Oak Pit is nearby as well.

San O Campground, I've had good surf fishing at old mans and at a few other spots down there. if the fishing is bad surf if the waves are bad fish. It is a pretty cool place to camp. I believe the actual campground is called San Mateo...its on the same street where you park to go down to lowers

Even though we all seem to be Ocean birds, San Gaberial (sp), East fork cost is $5.00 for the day (Big 5, Adventure Pass or $30.00 for the full year from the day you buy it. Total 50 miles, walk to water fly fish, or fish with 2lb flyline salmon eggs. No showers no open fires, camp stoves, low volume of people, good for hiking or just kicking back....91 east to 605 north to 210 east exit Azusa (39) make a left continue up the hill from there!! enjoy......you must have the day pass.....
