Hoop Net Question

Hello everyone,

First of all, I want to thank everyone in advance for any input they can give....Next, THE QUESTION

I am replacing some older hoop nets (flat style) and would like to get some input from some of you as to whether or not to upgrade to the eclipse nets? I haven't been hooping in a while and the nets I currently own (about 8) are the 36inch flat promars'....Some need repair/replacing, so I thought that while im at it, I may as well get a few eclipse.....Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I would look into pomar's new net the Ambush. Its like the eclipse but a lot easyier to pull and to deal with, but since the regs are going to change on the type of net allowed to be used I would go with lay flat style nets to be safe. I personaly do better with the flat ones...

Yep, Eclipse nets are a nice net and they are the biggest volium net you can purchase but they are also the hardest to pull because of the size IMO. Personaly I like the new ambush nets. 32" diameter makes them easier to pull than the 36" Eclipse or the 34" Danielson and the Danielson nets you have to zip tie your bait cage to the hoops netting and after a while the zip ties wear out the netting and it breaks. The Ambush nets have a small center ring around they're bait pouch that you can zip tie the bait cage too so it doesn't hammer you hoops netting. JMO.

X2 . When I need new nets it will be the ambushers, really like the design.

Going to give one a try sat at the island that was given to me.

"Danielsons are much better than the promars"

Both are good, just wondering what you find better ? I've used both the Promar Ambush conical and the Danielson conical on the past two trips (we have both on the 31' Pacific Edge) and I see no advantage to the Danielson. Danielsons are cheaper only untill you have to buy a bait cage for it ( no other palce to put the bait) or have to replace the netting after it starts to tear/break because you have to zip tie the bait cage to the netting. Other than that, the design is the same with very little difference between the two.

Promar Ambush = 32" diameter lower ring, 18" upper and top ring stands 7" off the bootm when at rest

Danielson = 34" diameter and 18' upper and the top ring stands 5 1/2 to 6" off the bottom at rest.

Like I said both are good and I'd only use either of those when hoopin myself.

I HATE the way the promars are put together with that crappy elastic cord and poles. The solid danielsons are great. Also you have to buy bait cages for both correct? Im no hoopin pro but havent had any mesh break yet.

If you decide to buy the eclipse nets and the regs change you can easily convert them to flat nets, did that to all my eclipse nets about a month ago. I/we have had better luck with the flat nets, don't know the exact reason for this but they have produced higher counts. Additionaly, they are easier to pull and store.

Ditto that, but what unreel is talking about is the new promar "ambusher" net. Basicly promar copied the danielson net, but improved it by having the standard bait pocket/ring and using better netting.

Also I noticed that solid welded frame is heavier on the new promar than the danielson, another plus.

If I were to buy new nets today I would get the ambusher

Tray, your comparing the Promar Eclipse net to a Danielson conical. Like IB said , Promar has come out with a new hoop the called the Promar Ambush net. Solid welded frame, no movable parts or bungie cords with little hooks to mess with. Check'em out there killer.

Also, no you dont need bait cages with any Promar hoops as they all have a bait pouch built into the small inner center ring. Daneilsons have nothing so you have to buy or make some kind of bait cage to attached to the netting before you can do any hoopin.

Here's a pic so you can compair the two. Danielson (black) on the left, Promar Ambush (blue) on the right.
