Yep!.........Seen that video!

This last September, my wife and I took the boat over to Catalina for 5 days. After 2 days of rather lack luster fishing. And I should say we were targeting tuna, dorado and yellow tail. We decided to head over to San Clemente Island.

From Avalon we headed around the corner and head towards the east end of S.C.I. about 2/3's the way there we run into dolphins rounding up some Yellow Fin. We put our rigs in and away we go!

We are fishing around the edges when the dolphins decide to push the Y.F. over our way! Man, what luck! The tuna were acting like they were boiling, rounding up their bait (tasty treats). It got so thick around our boat that numerous, maybe 10-12 or so, actually hit the side of our boat. I have a 96' aluminum Harbercraft, boy what a sound it made! They didn't jump into the boat, that was good enough for me!

Pics........nope, the camera was on the bed at the ole' "MacRae Hotel" in Avalon.

Score in the 20 min boil.............7 fish for 2 rods..........good enough to take by north to our home.

The guys at, and I am not sure exactly about the name, but I think it was called "Loster Trap" cleaned or fish and quartered them. All they wanted in the end...................a tip for the cook that did the work. By the end......I mean they didn't even know what to charge. So I had to call them back and they still didn't know. I picked up the fish our last day, they had them in their freezer for a day 1 1/2. I gave them one of my business card, because I had to leave, and said "Have the manager or owner give me a call regarding my bill. He called me 3 days after I had been home............and said.........."I don't know what to charge". I would like to mention that I got their name from a local I spotted and asked if any of the Resturants......clean fish?.....He gave me 2 names "Anthony's and "Lobster Trap".

I said to him, I did tip the cook already who did the work..........he said "That is good enough for me".

My wife and I have been going to Catalina, we tow our boat from NorCal every year, for the last 5 years to do some fishing and just hang out. I grew up in Long Beach, and still have plenty of family and friends who still live there. After the treatment we got from the Lobster Trap.......we'll be back. Not only to Avalon, but to their resturant.

I don't expect that I get a tip deal on cleaning fish next time..........but it was just a nice thing that happened!

HBfisherman....

I did tip him well and stayed for numerous cocktails to celebrate our catch.

And yes I tow a 96 Harbercraft.....had her since she was new! Best boat I've ever owned.

That's a big-ass chunk of aluminum - 96 feet!

What you tow it with, a Mac truck?
