| Founder of "Longrange Fishing" died on 10-21-09
After WW2, Bill Poole bought a surplus mine sweeper, and began commercial albacore fishing in San Diego. Fishing was so good, he took friends out to introduce them to saltwater fishing. In the 50's, he converted the Pacific Queen to a "sportfishing" boat, and began the San Diego longrange fishing fleet.
I started fishing with Poole in 1984, on a 4-day, albacore trip, with a jigmaster. Later, I went on the Q-105, Searcher, and Royal Polaris. In the early 90's, I went on several 10-18 day trips with Poole on the Excel, and he got me "hooked" on longrange forever. It was a joy to be on one of his trips, and we always caught fish.
