| problem with Albright Albright knot problem Using 40# fluoro to 65# braid. Read several good posts (Boiler, tap) on the modified Albright and the Tony Pena and I’ve been practicing tying the different variations while watching TV for the past few weeks. I keep having the same problem, the braid breaks right where it comes out of the knot, as if the fluoro is cutting it. I’ve tried several different variations of the knot, Albright special, modified Albright, reverse Albright, Tony Pena and out of 30 or so attempts, I would say 90% of the time, the braid breaks at the knot, between 24# and 34#. What am I doing wrong?

I dunno man the first one I ever tied is still attached and Ive caught many fish with it. What kind of braid/fluoro are you using? Maybe not tying it right?

X2...NEVER had one break on me. My rigs have always broken at either the hook with a SD knot or some random place in the middle of the leader from rubbing on the rocks. Make sure that you are exiting the loop the same way you came in. Also, lay your loops tight, don't put them on loose and expect it to come togeather when you tighten it.
Just to make sure we're on the same page...you should be forming the loop with your mono and wrapping the braid 7 up and 7 down, not the other way around.

I too expierienced the same problem before going to the chinaman knot. The chinaman is quick easy and way stronger than the albright. I put up a tutorial on bds, just do a search here to find it. Good luck

yes, I lay em tight, I've tried 7 up 7 down; 12 up 12 down; 12 down;
Im using Fluoro not mono though, could that be it? I could swear Im tying it correctly but must not be.

Mine never break anywhere except in the middle of the leader or at the hook.
Bad braid sounds like a distinct possibility. Try some different braid.
