| Reporting Potential Navigation Hazards
We received this from the Coast Guard and it's good info:
Recently a fisherman reported to the United States Coast Guard, via our Public Affairs page, objects in the water that could be a potential hazard to navigation. We were able to locate the forums where it was discussed after a several minutes of searching.
Potential hazards such as this should be reported to the nearest Coast Guard station immediately via cell phone or VHF-FM Channel 16 upon locating it. Boaters should provide the following information when making these reports:
1. Position of potential hazard or objects (GPS and/or Geo Reference)
2. Description of the objects (length, width, how much is visible above water, number of objects, direction they are heading, color, type of material, etc)
3. Number of objects seen visually.
These are the basic questions we will ask for but each station may ask for additional info.
I would respectfully ask that you somehow make it known to your subscribers that it's nice to inform other boaters via the forums but the Coast Guard can't do anything about it if they don't report it to us. Any objects in the water that could potentially create a hazard to a boater's navigation whether it is a recreational or commercial vessel needs to report it immediately to the Coast Guard.
