DO YOU NEED PASSPORT TO FISH ISLANDS?

Ok so to fish Coronados do you need to have a passport if you get stopped by Mex Navy?
Heard they have been stopping boats down there.
You just need Mexican permit, Boat reg and Insurance? with an I.D.?
How can they even check any of that stuff?

You would probably at least carry an ID no matter what...

You would probably have Ins. because it's crazy not to.

No you don't need a passport.

No you don't need a permit (mexican boating).

Yes you need a mexican fishing license.

And NO, the mexican Navy has no way of checking the authenticity of your proof of ins and vessel registration. As I understand it, they are not suppose to even board your vessel at all. But I could be dead wrong on at least one of the above. .

I would get a passport and carry it anyways because, what if???

No you dont need a passport the only time you will need one is if you touch land in Mexican Territory that is ALL.. You will need the Mex Fish lic and US Fish Lic. Always carry your paper work. Mexican Navy can board your boat if they feel like it. Its mexico. if they should come close to your boat or ask to check first call The USCG and let them know whats going on before you allow them to board. More then likely they wont.

You dont need a US license to fish down there. If you catch fish you have to fill out a declaration for the fish you caught in case you are questioned at the US dock.

You need to carry your us fishing lic at all times while fishing off shore from the US PERIOD..No reason why you shouldnt be carrying it anyways.. That would be like me saying I went into mexico and in reality caught all my fish in US waters. Why pay for one if you dont need it (your words)

I called the Customs and Border Protection Agency after the June 1 implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. They told me that only because of a local Director's ruling, we do not have to have Passports as long as we don't make land in Mexico. He did, however, say that we should carry a photo ID and a copy of our Birth Certificates so any doubt can be eliminated.

Note: this is for boats returning to San Diego. He said the Director for the area north of the city of San Clemente could rule another way - he didn't know.

That's it.
