| slide fishin with bait , nose hooked or belly hooked
heres another one. what ur preference? +s , -s. in my experiences, belly hooked baits do get bit better, yet you run the risk of being "picked" as they never feel he hook. this happen to me on my last trip. got picked 3 times. by the time i swithched up, the tuna bite was all but done. any opinions?
******not talking about fishin fish traps, irons, weighted baits eyc. strictly non weighted live baits.******

Belly on the slide cuz when you cast the bait in hits head first. Easier on the bait and you get better action.

******not talking about fishin fish traps, irons, weighted baits eyc. strictly non weighted live baits.****** | I don't fish livebait on the slide for that exact reason. If you insist on live, then a nose hooked bait won't rip out as easily. The forward momentum of the boat is very likely to rip the hook out of an ass hooked bait.

On a sportboat the first rig in the water after a jig hookup for me is a 1 to 2 oz torpedo sinker with about 2 to 3' fluro leader to the hook with a anchovy or sardine nose hooked. Drop that baby back under the prop wash and it's a guaranteed hookup. After that first drop back its a collar hooked bait if it's wide open. If it’s a slow pick I nose hook’em for the long soak.
On a PB I collar hook my baits for surface fishing or nose hook if I have to break out the torpedo rig to get down to deeper fish.

Unreel,
ah the 1oz torpedo sinker old man rig! just kidding bro. that is a sure fire way in getting bit. its worked for me many times and will continue to. its just when we flyline one into the prop wash, it seems like the ass hokked gets more play, but you also have a chance that the fish picks it up head first, and never feels the steel! in an earlier reply, someone mentioned that the boat sliding forward might rip out the hook. id say yes if your puttin over amount of pressure with ur thumb on the spool while line is comin off the reel. then and only then do i see the bait rippin off the hook. you really should be puttin minimal pressure on the spool as line is comin off. IMO. thanks for the replies. would like to hear more.
thanks
Danny
