powerbait, power worms, mini jigs, power grubs, nught crawlers, redworms, 1/4 copper and silver kastmasters and thomas bouyants. 4lb mainline, 2 lb leaders, sliding sinker rigs using 1/8 to 1/4 egg sinkers while bait fishing. use 6 lb for throwing lures. try fishing convict, gull lake, silver lake, mammoth creek, and sherwin creek.

Try upper lakes above June. Horseback ride up is the cat's ass.

I fish 32nds and 1/16th ounce lead heads with crappy jigs tied straight to 2lb test. I also fish a drop shot set-up with a power worm or a power nymph on 2lb test. You can also fish a split shot about 3 feet up your line from a size 10 or 8 mosquito hook with the power stuff. When fishing the iron (thomas bouyant's) i get the the fire dragon color or the gold and nothing else 1/4 or 1/6 ounce and tie it straight to 4lb test. Plastics are slowly worked acrossed the bottom or just above it. You can also fish the crappy jigs on top or with a bobber on top with about a 4 or 5 foot leader. I also fish all ultra light 7' up to 8.5' rods with no more then 4lb test. Hope this helps and good luck.

Im gonna be up at rock creek with some friends and family. If you want to hit the lake up together just stop by and look for the guys fishing the inlet of the lake w/ the BD hats on. Like boiler said for lures try going with the thomas bouyants or kastmasters. Hot colors are yellow mixed with green black dots. Yellow red dots. Black yellow dots. These colors always produce cast after cast. If you get to your spot early try finding spots where the flys and musquitos are infestating on top of the water. You can see trout boiling on top of them from time to time. You best bet for a quick and easy limit, well mine anyways is 4lb test main line ,floating bubble (fill the bubble about half way or all the way depending on how far you want to cast) , swivel 4lb berkley fluro and size 6,8,10 musquito hook. Cut the fat part of a night crawler and inflate with either a inflating needle or what i liek to use a diabetic syringe this makes sure your whole into the worm is nice and small. Cast out and work it back towards you. Its hella fun much funner then the bait and wait game.

thanks a lot guys, ima go pick up a handful of km's and thomas irons, what size should i go with though? 1/4? 1/8? 3/8?. i have a bag of chart trout worms that i might try dropshotting, and dropper looping some small crawlers. i think my buddy said he wanted to get out on a pontoon? i dont know we'll see how it goes, try to find some trout boils and get some iron in there.
thanks for the offer too apcrew, i'm not going this weekend, we're going the weekend of july 4th, if i see bd hats somehwere i'll be sure to holler

apcrew made a great point that I forgot to mention myself. Look for running water and fish close to that. Also trout like to cruise the shorelines. For an example, if you fish at Convict, walk all the way to the back on the left side and follow the trail to the inlet. The trail will rise up off of the level of the lake and you will be some 20 feet or more above the water. You will be able to spot schools of trout from up there and if you have a few guys one can stay up there and get you casting in the right direction until you start getting hooked up and then he can come and join the party. I also use this tactic at Sabrina and South Lake's. As far as bait fishing for trout goes I haven't done it in over 5 years, makes me want to fall asleep and I can typically catch a 3-5:1 ratio vs someone using bait. Learn how to fish with the crappy jigs and the power worms and you'll catch tons of trout and it will be much more enjoyable as well. Nothing like bouncing that crappy jig and having it just take off in the opposite direction because Mr 4lb Brown decided he was hungry! Good luck.

We spent two days fishing Crowley. The trout were in "Bite Mode" One of the hot tickets was using a bobber and a worm. Set the worm approximately 4 feet down and just wait.... I believe the Mammoth lake loop was recently stocked as one of my friends managed a number of smaller trout fishing there. Ask the locals and check the fish report at Crowley. thanks for all the tips, i most likely wont be throwing bait, but my buddies dont fish much and their perception of fishing is still the cast and wait game and dont believe there are many fish to be caught on artificial. we'll see what happens
