Halibut cleaning and freezing

I did a search and just got too impatient. I'm new to halibut fishing but not to fishing or cleaning fish. I would like to know what is the best way to clean the fish and how long can you freeze the fillets before they start tasting bad. I'm coming from Vegas and would be putting them on ice for a day or two. Would it be better to use regular ice or freeze them with dry ice? Should I just gut them and pack um or fillet them?
Of course this only matters if I catch anything!

Fillet the fish as soon as possible. It is easier to fillet and less smelly when the meat is fresh. If you have access to Food Saver vacuum sealer, use it. It will keeps the meat fresher alot longer. Freeze vaccuum sealed fillet immediately, if possible. For shipping, place the frozen fillet in a cooler with regular ice. It should stay frozen for your 3.5 hours drive. My sister lives in Phoenix area and drives approx. 6 hours. When she is in town, I will give her frozen lobster tails or frozen halibut fillet (when available). She tells me that upon arrival, the goodies are still frozen.

to fillet a halibut you cut it down the center line and cut away from the spine down the bones .you get 4 nice fillets.helps if when you catch the fish immediatly put it into a cooler of ice and sea water.makes for a firm blood free fillet
