You probably will not need much of a belt. Get one of the less expensive models with the gimbal bolt/lock and it will do you fine. $35-$40 I think.

I bought a plastic one from Big 5 for 15$, drilled a hole and stuck in a bolt and nut for the gimble. Everytime I go out I forget to bring the damn thing.

I have a Sumo Day belt and it is nice. I also picked up a braid pad that slips over your belt. It doesn't have a gimble but it looks like it would be nice when fishing smaller rigs just to have a place to put the rod without brusing your gut. I think I paid about $10 for the braid.

I HVE TAKEN ONE THE LAST TWO YEARS ON 5 DAY TRIPS ON THE SEARCHER AND NEVER PUT IT ON. I AM AN OLD MAN, WE NEVER HAD THEM WHEN I WAS KID, SO I DON'T LIKE THEM.

5-Day?

You just need a pussy pad. Any of the standard ones will do.

I don't use one myself on those types of trips.

I like to use a "pussy pad" (nice one Sdangler; I like that) on the five day trips. You don't need a gimbal at Cedros, but might benefit from one at Guadalupe. I've found that the Sumo Ninja works well. They have them at Charkbait.com as well as Fisherman's landing. And I think that fighting belts have been around for some time; my dad used them in the 50's and 60's, but they were made of leather back then.
