Can anyone tell me of a good seasickness medication for kids. My son loves going but the last couple trips has gotten way sick. I need to figure something out before he decides he does not want to go anymore. He's 10 years old and 80lbs. Tanks for any help.

the best meds seem to be available for "Adults" with no mention of children I.E. scopace.
perhaps just keep the kids fishing low keyed first as in light tackle bay bass fishing to keep their interest and progress "S-L-O-W-L-Y". keep in touch with the kids doc to see when he thinks the kids can start the scopace.
have you tried the OTC remedies such as dramamine, etc?

I saw a new product, well new to me at least, at the Fred Hall Long Beach Show called Quease Ease...its some type of aroma that you sniff when that feeling is coming on. No clue if it works or not

I always see the girlfriends and the kids of guys fishing getting sick. Why? SITTING in the galley.
(1) Have to be active and you won't think about the swell (placebo). (2) Dramamine, Bonine, Marezine motion sickness tablets. And the maybe the most important (3) No GREASE! Omit the burgers, mayo, bacon, etc.

now that i think about it, ya know my neighbor's rug rat does perfect on 3/4 day'rs without drugs but once he does an overniter, he's dead meat no matter what the conditions are or what medications he takes. he's so excited and nervous he DOES NOT sleep!!
SO ~
my best assessment is: SLEEP!!! and plenty of it!!!
it applies to the wife also although she starts the scopace or patch 36 hrs in advance to get her body acclimated to the drug.
she generally crashes the whole day before we sail but once on the boat she does well.
sleep 'n drugs!!! knock the li'l tyke out with drugs so he sleeps well and keep him on the meds as normal and well fed with light foods such as breads/sandwiches.

Feed them a good breakfast/lunch before you go out. Take something like 7up to drink, and keep them active. If they can let them snack.
When I took my oldest boy out on his first big water trip, he just wanted to sit around, puked his guts out. We stayed out the whole day.
Next morning he still wanted to go out, so he did. Has never gotton sick ever again. I got lucky.
If he has even a hint of a cold/allergies I let him take a antihistimine that morning to keep his ears clear.

Jason | Scopace is the best IMO but check with the doc first. For my 10 year old daughter I buy some stuff call bonine for kids, a little hard to find but its around. Have him start taking it the night before the trip and again in the morning make sure he drinks plenty of water the night before and while fishing. Buy Bonine For Children, Motion Sickness Tablets, Berry Berry Online at drugstore.com |

Jason,
Have him take dramamine for kids the night before. Then again before you guys hit the water.
Hope that works for you.

I was told the electric bracelets worked. I've tried them on two people so far and they worked perfectly with no side effects. Are they the same as "sugar pills?" Maybe, I sold the heck out of them to both people before the trip. If they are the same as sugar, I don't care cause they worked both times.
Good luck. There is nothing like putting your kids on fish.
