Carrying Rods On Airlines Questions

I am heading from SFO to El Salvador with a connection in Houston and am bringing 4 rods. Continental airlines says rod cases are allowed as long as they are not over 115 inches total L+W+H. I have two rod cases a Plano Jumbo Airliner and a Bazooka Pro. I have 8 foot rods in the Plano right now and the case measures 96+11.5+8.5 inches with the handle. This comes out to 116 inches total. Are they going to let me check my rod tube since its 1 inch over? I thought Plano made that tube so that it is airline approved??? The bazooka Pro seems to be about the same size so should i use that instead? What do you think? I'm leaving tomorrow so any suggestions would help. Thanks.

can't imagine them doing the math to bust you for ONE inch. But then again, I've been told i have no imagination.... Seriously, you should be fine.

they usually dont trip about that unless there is a huge amount of cargo on the bottom already it would be different if it were a carry on, sometimes they charge you the difference in the size, for one inch and a couple of oz. they wont trip
