Does Anyone Watch Whale Wars?

I just finished watching an episode of Whale Wars on the discovery channel. I must say that it's an interesting show. So, I have a question regarding the topic of whale hunting? Is there no limit or restriction of intake of whales for consumption or "research"? If the Japanese and other countries can legally hunt whales for consumption, why bother them? Do these people (green peace and sea shepherd) not know that this is a food item (cultural food item) that's been consumed for hundreds of years? Thoughts? Comments?

I thought there was an International moratorium on whaling that went into effect years ago?

OK, where do I start. I have so many thoughts racing through my head.

The show is very intriguing. From what I understand the research is completely legal, but Greenpeace/Sea Shepard want to protect all whales. They even try to humanize the whales because the mothers breastfeed their young. Not that I'm against saving the whales but there's always somebody out there trying to impose their own beliefs on to somebody else: save the fish, seals, dolphins, whales, economy, save the world.

What I find most interesting is the complete lack of experience and respect towards the seas. The captain appears to always be asleep, and completely disengaged. The second in command doesn't know what the hell he's doing, and there's always conflicting opinions and power struggles with the crew.

They launch half ass planed attacks on these whaling vessels at night in rough seas on some little inflatable. These boats don't even have the essential electronics. I guess the only thing that keeps me tuned in is the total disregard for human life, someone is going to die soon.

They are fishing it for "research". The law says something about all research whales can not be wasted.

Anyone want to join sea wolves? A group which condones legal sea harvesting of the sea?

the enviros on this show are idiots. They send two crew members to sneak on board another ship, and then claim to the media that those crew members that boarded the other ship are being held hostage...WTF?

I think the show does a lot of editing and over-dramatization (like every other show out there). I only watched one episode, and that will be the last for me.

I saw it last night for the first time and agree that the idiots on the sea shepard are like those fucks that spike trees. know this if they get the world to stop whaling one of two things will happen the whalers will convert to something else taken from the sea (hrrm maybe sea lions would be good) and/or the sea shepard will start targeting other fisheries.

They are environmental nazi's/ terrorists and condoning it will mean others will start doing that next. How would you like to be on the RP at clarion and have them throw their slippery deck shit or acid at you and then try to tangle your prop.

It is a bullshit show and I for one will not watch so they don't get ratings.

Rant off

I've watched most of the show's episodes and I am really entertained. Its just that simple. I mean... could this group of misfits be any more unprepared for whatever "cause" they've undertaken? Who among us would "die for the whales"? You gotta give them a little credit for their commitment. I guess. Oh... and if you're telling me you didn't kind of wish one of those dudes got tossed off the Japanese ship when they boarded it from the raft... You're a fibber!!!

The sea Shepherd Capt and crew are complete morons, it’s a wonder that ship functions at al!
fficeffice" />
The show loosely explains the whale laws and justification for both the Japanese and the Australian based Sea Shepherd. According to the interpretation of the law by the Japanese Govt., the Japanese can legally harvest ‘X’ number of whales per year for “research” and so as not to “waste” the meat, they process it for consumption.

At first I was against the whalers but after watching the show and the complete idiots aboard the Sea Shepherd, I’m starting to see the show from a different POV. I find myself wanting something bad to happen to the Sea Shepherd. I cannot support any outfit that would deliberately try to foul the props of the Japanese ships, that’s fucked up. Stink bombs are hilarious but deliberately fucking up another mans boat is grounds for keelhauling! The Japanese are showing tremendous restraint, I would have keelhauled those fucks that boarded the whale ship!
