Moon Phases

Is the moon phase critical for night fishing and the tuna bite around the outerbanks southern California. Where are the outerbanks Southern California.

FROM THE FISH COUNTS I FOLLOW, THE BLUEFIN BITE VERY WELL LEADING UP TO A FULL MOON. ALBACORE & Yellow Fin Tuna SEEM TO DROP OFF A BIT. AS FAR AS OUTER BANKS GO...I CONSIDER THE CORTEZ AND TANNER TO BE 'OUTER' BANKS. THE 181, 182, 43 FATHOM SPOT COULD BE CONSIDERED OUTER BANKS. I GUESS I'D ASK A SEASONED SKIPPER TO FIND WHAT EXACTLY IS AN OUTER BANK. GOOD LUCK & HAPPY FISHING!

From Commercial Tuna fishing records the moon period of 1st quarter to full moon & about 1/8 past fullmoon is the peak.
One thing that seems to affect this is that there is a definite peak at the start of the cycle for tunas. Weather can affect this and delay peak activity to later in the cycle & even past the 1/8 waning moon.
This does not infer that there is no activity at other times . Good strike rates can be experienced outside the moon peak for a huge variety of reasons.
For recreational fishing it's more a decision of available time management & going fishing in season when you are able to provide the time.
Any day on the water is far more fun than working
