Aaarrrggghh.
I know how to tie the stupid knot, but is there a way to keep the loop I'm trying to from from slipping back through the knot when I snug it up?
I've tried varying the number of initial turns and snugging different parts of the loop and tag ends, but 90% of the time when I try to cinch it, the loop just pulls back through the turns. It's almost as though the line is too slick.
Most of the ones that do cinch down, the line is all bent and weakened near the loop.
Must have dozed off that day in fishing 101 class, so any help would be, er, helpful.
Jack

Surgeon's loop... Dropper Loop is antiquated and not very strong.
Really easy, just Google it or PM me.

Hold the loop part in with your teeth then cinch down.

Just put it in your mouth...in your MotherF---ing Mouth!
Hope this helps...

FishkillerBill married me because I could tie a dropper loop. Hold the loop in your mouth, then pull evenly on both ends. Make sure you twist the line 5 times, then pull the loop through hold and tighten.
Most people make the mistake of starting out with too short of a loop, it will pull some upon tightening.

The dropper loop knot is a weak, terrible knot.
The spider hitch and the surgeons knot, in that order, are far superior to form a loop for dropper loop fishing.
If you are going to learn and perfect a knot, I suggest it be one that will not break at 65% of the lines breaking strength especially on fish like yellowtail and white seabass, JMO...

Jack, retire that old crappy knot
surgeon's loop or spider hitch
way, way easier to tie these properly and reliably.
Todd.

The spider hitch or Roy Rose knot (surgeon's loop with 5-6 turns) are both better knots and faster/easier to tie.. |
