Not having to replace the whole spool of line every season... Fishing different line classes with smaller reels; Avets and Accurates come to mind with small reels being able to fish 30-50# lines.

Stuff like that.

You get these bitch little deep cuts from knot paying attention, great time extention between spectra refills 3yrs and counting, less top shot to fill saves time and money. Bimini twist are easier to tie. It just the best all around setup!

It cuts through kelp stringers like a knife. Same benefits on kelp paddies.

And as others have said, be careful with your fingers.

I keep a short piece of wood onboard in case I get hung up on the bottom. Make a few wraps around it and you will be able to break free. Don't try with your hands.

Also, get some of that fishermen's tape to protect your thump while using it to guide line back on your reel.

I found some industrial tape that bonds to itself that seems to be far superior though. When I put a piece around thumb it would not come off.
Had to use a pair of scissors to cut it off at the end of the day AFTER I took a shower. The cloth tape that is sold to fishermen does not last that long, and is somewhat affected by water. Bought it at the Fred Hall show. Sorry, but I cannot remember the name, but since I bought a 3 spool package figured I would have enough to last a lifetime.

Someone else on this board might know it's name. Anyone?

Bottom fishing is so insanely different with spectra...

I fished with some mono recently (bottom fishing) after using spectra for like 2 years (for bottom fishing) and it sucked.

With spectra, you can be 300 feet deep and you can feel EVERYTHING. Plus there's no scope in the line. With the mono - I felt nothing like with the spectra.

Not having to replace the annually

Cutting through kelp....

Deep cuts in your index fingers...

Great stuff Maynard - great stuff!
