Colnett - Fishing

Fishing Sat. & Sun...Baja Coast/Colnett... on (12/11 to 12/13) has anyone ever fished the area the first/second week of December? Any advice? We'll probably be bottom fishing that weekend since I highly doubt any Tuna will be in the area.

Should I take my casting jig stick with me just in case? Any information would greatly help, also, what type of lures work best for the area?

You can't use it, if you don't take it. There could be yellows around at that time.

You need a yoyo setup with at least 40lb. Yellows down there are beasts 30lb plus fish at times.

I go every year last part of december. Dress warm and be prepared for an ass kicking. The fishing is always good for us. last year mots and I cleaned house. brought back a couple hundred pounds of very good reds. Sometimes there are yellows.

Did I mention to be prepared to freeze your ass off?

If you get a chance to fish the ridge................(done all mine in the spring time), it's some a the greatest Tail fishing you'll do. Drift over the ridge and drop down the iron and hang on. When it hits the bottom reel as fast as you can. Those Yellowtail down there will give you a run for your money.

Curtis............

The boat Hanna...........

Yes Yes and Yes those yellows are tough...I like to use a full size 6x as opposed to a jr because its BIGGER and sinks faster and seems to hammer the big boys....Winter yellows are better than turkey this time of year.......

Saw on 976-tuna that the Pearl was out there last weekend.

The Black Pearl in last night from their 2 day rockfish trip with great weather and good fishing. The guys brought in 180 rockfish, 1 sheephead, 1 cow, 42 monster lings, 36 reds, 90 whitefish, and 9 yellowfin.

Same boat I'll be on....... I like the catch, hopefully they'll leave some for my trip!! Bought a new Avet MXL reel for this trip, probably too lite for bottom fish but I want to try it out.... I'll have the reel on a 7' Classic Seeker rod using #30 spectra #30 Izorline first string top shot with about 2 feet of #20 Seagur Premier leader on the end, Dropping a 16oz glow in the dark torpedo sinker and looking at 2/0 or 3/0 ringed mutu hook......
