Report from Brian Woolley Captain of the Sum Fun out of Dana Point to Fishdope.com on Friday w/Pictures.
Dana Point, Orange County Whale Watching Trips, Sportfishing Charters & Cruises in Southern California (CA)
Super good bass fishing. With this swell the water has really turned color but it has maintained it's temperature. Still a solid 73 today. All the kelp is wide open on calico bass and the guys fishing the dropper loop or the heavy rubber are catching some decent sandbass. One of our boats went 0-7 on the bigger yellows yesterday at the Barge Kelp just above San Mateo Pt. Big fish, and they made quick work of the guys that hooked them. Fish the heavy spectra with the 40-60 lb flouro.
Some barracuda finally popped down the beach in the Las Flores area off Camp Pendleton. Some decent scores and the fish were a solid quality. The flylined sardine or surface iron worked well today.
But really it's been all calico fishing for us pretty much all week.
Super solid action and some real nice fish. We had our fair share of 4-5 lbers today as well as a 6lber here and there. The MC slugs in the 8-10" sizes have been getting absolutely wrecked. The 50 lb braid to the 40-50lb flouro has been a solid set up. Fun stuff when the water is warm and these things want to bite.
See ya
