I day out of Point Loma or San Diego

I am new to the board and and an experienced Gulf Coast fisherman but new to the Southern Cal Tuna fishery and plan a 1 day trip next week on the New Lo Ann. I will be flying in from Houston and want to pack rods/reels rather than rentals.

I have called the office and they just told me to bring it all....but thats impossible anyone can clue me into what I really need...

Thanks for the advice...also if anyone got another suggestion on a one day boat mid week next week please let me know.

I would pack a 25- 30 pound setup witha spectra backing and big game line, finish it off with a 40 pound floroleader. this is my go to rig. then a 20 pound setup for finicky bites with the same materials and a 25 pound floro leader. bring a 50-60 pound setup as well , they have been seeing some larger grade bluefin. some guys are throwing fishtraps on the slide. I prefer 3/0 live bait hooks . good luck.

40, 30, 20 # setups for an overnighter and you should be good to go

New Lo-An... Nice boat to pick. Really nice! Coming in from Houston... you might want to get to the landing early to hunt down a parking space in the main lot and get something to eat. Like Guero said 20, 30, 40 are all good. I like to bring a 25lb rig, too. Flourocarbon for all lines. I like circle hooks #1 - 4/0. Everybody has their favorites. Just don't bring old line. The boat has trolling rods so get with the deckhands for a rig when it's your turn. The deckies are your friends and will help you get rigged up. Whether the fish bite or not, have fun on your trip.
