geeez

already know most of that shit but there are discrepancies I never had to worry about before as deckhands usually know whats up, like whitefish size limit, is there any? I know sheephead = 12", lingcod = 12", cabiez = 15", kelpies, sandies and spotties = 12", but what about soupfin sharks, no siae limit or?, and what the fuck is alternate size when it says cudas have to be 28" or alt size 17"? BTW I have been fishin my whole life, born with a pole in my hand though, not up my ass like you.

Dang, I was sure hoping to see an intelligent answer too, I also was totally lost trying to read through the regulations, downloaded them off the internet, 88 f**king pages. But I do understand that it would be hard for anyone to condense it into an understandable form with all the closed areas, can keep this, can't keep that, south of this, north of that bs. Pity you Ca guys.

yup, all the f(_)cking tree huggers, I am all for regulation on the commercial fishing but the studies have shown thayt recreationsl sport fishing constitutes only >3% of all fish caught, leave us alone. Thats exactly why I was hoping somebody knew of a cheat sheet maybe with pics of the rockfis next to their limits, instead of going to the DFG site, where you can see their pics and info on one pamplet, their bag and size limits in another, and the regulatory areas in another!

That link given is perfect.

The bag and possession limit for soupfin shark is one fish with no minimum size limit. The daily bag and possession limit for spiny dogfish is ten fish with no minimum size limit.

1.62. Minimum and Maximum Size. No fish, mollusks or crustaceans less than the legal
minimum size or greater than the the maximum legal size (total, fork or alternate) may be
possessed, except as otherwise provided. Total length is the longest straight-line measurement
from the tip of the head to the end of the longest lobe of the tail. Fork length is the straight-line
distance from the tip of the head to the center of the tail fin. Tip of the head shall be the most
anterior point on the fish with the mouth closed and the fish lying flat on its side. Alternate length
is the straight-line distance from the base of the foremost spine of the first dorsal fin to the end of
the longest lobe of the tail. Unless otherwise provided, all fish, mollusks or crustaceans less than
the legal minimum size or greater than the maximum legal size must be returned immediately to
the water from which they were taken. [Note: See Invertebrate section for definitions of minimum
legal size for mollusks or crustaceans.]

Barracuda: Fillets must be a minimum of 17 inches in length. Each fillet shall bear
intact a one-inch square patch of silver skin

I printed this up in color http://www.darrp.noaa.gov/southwest/...srp_fishid.pdf

and then went through the DFG website / book and marked it up with the sizes and limits.

3% of all fish caught, but over 95% of all DFG citations issued. Like the majority of this countries laws, these regulations have more to do with the states revenues.
