Tankers in the SoCal Bight...

Swords are here in big numbers most years.

Gary is most likely the best Capt in our local waters.

Just for some perspective, at 6'6" 250 these fish make me look small.

Dressing out at well over 450lbs.

I have seen first hand a swordy go balistic after its head was slugged, no way I would get in the water with one or stick a purple fish!

Well, Tom some of us just have more brains than brawn. I have seen a fresh one stuck and it can be very dangerous. Second shot or not, I'll still have my head on to talk about it. Let's not get personal about it! Your not big enough to want to play with my balls..

Tom, I somewhat agree.. All I'm saying is if you do, you had better be careful. Telling people to stick a hot swordfish without the knowledge to do it right could get someone hurt or killed, imho.

And, btw, congrats on your fish(s), an exclusive club for sure...

There is not one part of swordfishing that does not require commitment and a strong will. If you don't use your head you may have it taken off. I have dealt with many green swordfish and have seen what they are capable of first hand. I have to agree with Tom though,You only get one shot and you better take it. I had a fish on for 5 1/2 hours, it was just out of gaff range for 3 1/2 of those hours. At 5 1/2 hours we had it almost close enough for the shot and my partner tickled the fish with the gaff and I was spooled in less than a minute flat. #80 on a 50 wide penn 2 speed.
