I have tried it many times but I believe I was fishing too deep. There was a study that shows tagged swordfish to feed high in the water column at night.I have been hooked up several times to what I think were swords and ended up pulling the hook every time. The best thing you can do is wait for your shot at one on the surface and make it count if you get them eat the bait.Going after them as a target will make you poor and crazy,I promise.

Guys are trying this stuff here, but no one has landed them yet. A few big mystery fish and lots of giant squidded baits.

This nostalgia is awesome. I completely jealous of you OLD guys.

A bit of inspiration for me has been my buddy Boldwater explaining the Port Canaveral, FL Swordfishing history.

The story goes like this....

The guys in PC were just like us thinking that good numbers of swords are only caught in Miami and South. They tried and tried the South Fl tactics with little success and just wrote if off for many years.

Many years later, some guys figured out if they fish at different depths and use slightly different rigging, they can hook these fish CONSISTANTLY.

Now there are many guys in PC that get swordys on a regular basis.

According to many experts, we have MORE and BIGGER Swordies here than many places in Florida.

I just think we need to crack the code to getting them to bite. A lot of guys think it will be a daytime deep drop tactic and a lot of guys think it's nighttime trolling.

I'm not sure, but I do know we have a lot of big swords here and they have to be eating a lot to get to that size. We just need to figure out how to get a bait in front of them when they are HUNGRY.

Someone will crack the code here sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.

Go get them.

You can have your east coast deep drop 50# fish.We have hogs here. The true glory is in catching a surface fish, after you do that you will understand.I never saw a fish under 100# but I saw them up to #600 back when we used to stick them.

I kind of figured it would come down to something like that. It would be pretty rad to be the guy who dialed it in. Lots of outstanding and inovative fisherman around SoCal. Someone will figure it out...

Ok, fine, I'm sure the East Coast guys with over 2000lbs of swords boated in a season are ok with that. I bet they're just dandy with us keeping the long shot surface hooked fish, while they pull on a purple, squid eaters day in and day out...

So then you agree with killing baby swordfish, that is fine.I do not agree with it but to each his own.Since you have so much experience with this animal I would take a shot in the dark and say you think it is the same fight too.
