Pictures would be great if you got em...Do they require any kind of venting?

I'm sure most of you guys already know it, But Mark goes the extra mile. I needed some over size cork for a build coming up, Called him a couple days ago and he said he thought he might have what I needed, But he'd have to look because it was buried somewhere in the moth balls. Most times you hear something like that, And it's like, Yeah right, I'll hold my breath, Right?

I got a package yesterday with 2 perfect pieces of quality cork, Exactly what I needed

Thanks a lot Mark

This Korean woman is regarded as the fastest rod wrapper in the world. She can even wrap thread with accuracy in complete darkness.

Too bad the video it is not in English because we could learn a lot from watching it. Of particular interest is when she tied off the long wrap and then used a cigarette lighter to do something to the thread, all of this was done in about 2 seconds. If anyone knows the "whys & Wherefores" of the cigarette lighter , please let me know.

You can play the video Full Screen (after it's started), by right clicking on the video, then and selecting Zoom then Full Screen

The video is relatively long, but well worth watching to the end!

A lot of guys seem to be using these blanks and I sometimes see complete rods made with these for sale usually for a decent price even though they are older. I've only been doing the rod building for like a year now, so I am curious what is so good about these rods that some people like them so much? I don't doubt that they are nice and worth the money that people pay for them, I am just curious what they are like compared to the newer stuff because I am kind of interested in doing one someday with some sort of "vintage" look to it.

Greetings,

I wanted to call your attention to a rod/reel/line & flies package that just went up on eBay as a "charity auction".

Yeah, I know... "Fly Rod?" you're saying? lol Bare with me...

A couple of weeks ago I found out that a friend's Son in Law had a non-operable brain tumor. Byran Bishop had been undergoing chemo which had shrunk the tumor and Bryan was optimistically pushing forward. Bryan was the sound man for the Adam Carolla radio show. Adam and a number of Bryan's other friends put together a benefit comedy show called "Laughs for Bald Bryan" ( http://www.laughsforbaldbryan.com/ ) to generate money to help Bryan with a mound of medical bills. The event is this Friday night in Hollywood with a large list of comedians (including Jimmy Kimmel) and last I heard, all but twenty of the 1200 seats had been sold.

Along with the comedy show, Bryan's friends also set up a benefit auction which is when the lightbulb came on in my head. Friends had been donating everything from "walk-on" spots on TV shows, to new power tools to video games for the auction. I asked Don (an avid fly fisherman) if a rod for the auction would help and he said "YOU BET", so I got after it... I delivered the rod to Don (practically still "wet") the other day and he went out and bought everything else needed (reel, line, flies & tube) to complete the package.

They just put it up on eBay last night. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150389971289 Not sure what the "reserve" is, but I'm sure it's still going to be a steal...

Pardon the "fuzzy" pics, but I literally took this rod out of the dryer box Saturday, snapped two pics on the dead run, and ran the rod over to Don. The wraps are madeira to match the Amboyna Burl & Agate stripper. Can't see it from the crappy pics, but those are "fade" trim bands on all the guide wraps.

Attachment 165846
Attachment 165847

Don took some more photos which are on the auction page...
Attachment 165849

Everything's there. Rod, reel, line, sock, tube and flies... Now go throw a bid on it. You might get it cheap!

Thanks!!

Not to long ago I put a "Rod Builders Websites" page up on my Rodbuilder's Library website and posted links to some of the rod builder's websites that I know about. A few from my friends here on BD.
The Rod Builder's Library - Rod Builder's Websites

If you build rods for sale and have a website post a link here or PM me with the url and I'll put up a link to it. You don't have to be a member or contributor of my Library site! Oh, check the link above as you might already be listed.

As mostly other rod builder's use my Library site the link probably won't generate any business directly but the link and any additional traffic might boost your Search Engine rating and help out that way.

Only have room for so many so first come first served!
