Hit DVL this a.m. on my first shore fishing of this lake. Brought some old bass gear and dozen crawlers. Worked the cove east of the marina and just pass the 5 mph bouy line. Floated crawlers on 18" leader for an easy limit of the trouts. The biggest at 18". Threw the old (not $30) swimbaits for a few LMB chasers of decent size but I couldn't fool them enough to go for the rubber. I saw no stripers. I forgot my bag with the plastics but I did find two used oxblood/blue stripe that were salvagable in the one did have and went 2 for 12-14 pickups on a couple of 10" bass
The launch ramp is touching the water and the lake level is rising. I should have my Crestliner back from the recall work by the time it reopens.
Back at the truck by 11:15, dropped the fish at my friends house in Hemet and headed to Soboba Casino only to find the parking lot full of cars. WTF, all I wanted was an easy beer and 20 minutes on a table, must be some kind of coupon day. I'll save my money for the next time.
A 2:15 beer at the office and a quick BD post.

The boys was excited, and we all headed to Corona the next day. Here are our results.

No secret here. All you need is a float tube, 1/32 oz jig head with a pink power worm. You only need "1" rod.

Thanks,

Fished Lake Cuyamaca today, I got there at around 7:00 am and rented a row boat, since they won't allow my kayak. :(

I started out fishing across from the boat dock about 30 feet off of the "island" (not sure the name of the exact area, and it 'aint really an island). I tied on some powerbait (Rainbow sherbet color) and literally, within 30 seconds of it hitting the bottom he had a trout. It was pretty slow after that, until I started to troll the lake. I caught one trout on a #5 shad pattern Rapala.
After trying other spots to no avail, we returned to our original spot from the morning. Good move... WFO Crappie action on the mini-jigs under a bobber, any deeper than 3 feet and you wouldn't get bit. My brother had a lot of fun with these on an ultra light with 2 lbs test. While fishing for Crappie, I managed one more Rainbow on the powerbait.

However, things turned to crap after I cleaned my fish. I LOST my new Rapala Fillet knife, and a Smith & Wesson folding knife. I believe I left them on the ledge above the cleaning table. I got sidetracked cleaning the table and forgot my knife (The Rapala knife has a Black Rubber Handle, is in a black sheath, and is sharp enough to cut newspaper, the Smith & Wesson knife is rusted and is a piece of crap) The Fillet Knife has more of a sentimental value than monetary. If anybody found these by chance I would really really love to have them back. As a reward I have a brand new Lucky Craft crankbait to offer.

Leader size was 3 feet
4 and 2 lbs test
Used yellow powerbait
Trolled Rapalas, (kastmasters, thomas buyants, roostertails, and various other trout lures didn't attract any bites)
It appeared the bite was best in the morning.

It is still going off. Steady fishing all day.

Got there today at 7:00 a.m. and rented a boat and picked up some crawlers. Set up on a beach on the west shore and it was pretty much all you wanted of 1 to 2 pounders on bait. Crawlers and power bait...didn't matter. After about an hour of that I decided to follow that age old fishing advice...Leave fish to go find fish LOL.

100 feet off the shoreline as I am setting my second troll rod the first one gets hammered on the firetiger. Found an area of fish that wanted to bite down by the bouy line at the dam under the dam keepers house. That corner bit steady all day. Pink Mirroshad getting most of the action. Did I say steady?

On one pass down the bouy line I had 4 short bites in a row. I knew the fish were there but they were now just nibbling instead of attacking. A nice little breeze was starting to blow from west to east so I decided to set up a drift in the deep water. Cruised up to the western side of the dam near the bouy line and fished two bobbers with 1/2 a crawler 4 feet under each of them. I can not tell you how many trout rolled on the bobbers trying to eat them. After a few misses they would find the worm and bloop, down goes the bobber. I was laughing my ass off as I drifted, singles, doubles, fish trying to eat the bobbers, orange balls flying around underwater. I did three drifts along that bouy line all by myself. No one was even trolling it. Probably only saw 5 boats trolling all day.

Back to trolling. After all that interest in the bright orange bobbers I switched out the firetiger for the flourescent orange Mirroshad. Pink and orange Mirroshads had me hopping, working that corner down by the dam.

Had an unusual fish on the troll. Orange Mirroshad gets bit but it feels funny. Out behind the boat aways I see the orange jig three feet out of the water. What? I assume I wrapped the pink one so I hold the bit rod between my legs and starting winding the the other rod. Pink Mirroshad comes all the way to the boat unfouled. I look back and the orange one is still 2 to 3 feet out of the water with a fish tugging. Wind that one to the boat and sure enough there is a loose line wrapped on my jig with a fish attached. I handline that fish to the boat some 50 feet hoping a bright shiny trolling lure would be attached. No such luck as it was a baitfish with 75 feet of line it had been towing around.

Just a great day. All the fish were 1 to 2 pounders with a couple of 3 pounders mixed in. Did not see any big ones taken. Ospreys doing their thing all day. Three deer came to the waters edge to drink. Beautiful sunny day with little wind. Best of all no crowd at all.

Really couldn't ask for anything more...

Mid lake was the ticket . Mostly smaller fish today for me . Couple 3 pounders in the mix . Limits were easy in the kids lagoon for the familys fishing and even easier on the main lake if you knew how to fish . Another epic day .

Totally ridiculous trolling today at the Vine today. The flat line , the keel sinker rig , the leadcore , ......... Everything was working . Limits were had very quickly . At first I was dragging my go to lures , SC Shiners , Mira Shads , e.t.c.... But soon realized this was the day to try everything . I had put some nail polish and glitter on some old silver CD 5 rapalas the other day .... it worked great . We would get a fish and then the other guy clearing the rod would get bit on the wind in . Several doubles this way . Fish were all over the lake . Back of the flats , damn buoy line , west shore . The area out in front of trout island was red hot . Got a triple hook up their , and Big Steve got a quadruple hook up today as well on the troll .

If I was going to bait fish this weekend , the West Shore would be my choice . Fish boiling all along the west shore today. It does not matter how many people show up the next few days . Early limits will be the norm .

The word was that some of the trout that were cleaned already had shad in the bellys . :boobies:

I did not go fishing today , I went catching .

Well I just got back from my annual Havasu trip with cousin Bob. 35 years and counting.

We went out last Sun and the weather wasn't cooperating much. We really only got in 1 good day of fishing. A low pressure moved in a screwed everything up. We only saw a few dink stripers caught.

We did manage a couple nice cats,5-8lbs, and these nice bluegill in 50' of water. We caught them on nightcrawlers and 2o hooks. The buggers even swallowed the hooks. The knives in the pictures are 10" for referrence.

Enjoy and tight lines.

Hey Guys,

I have never posted on the freshwater board before and am really not sure where this post belongs. I am from AZ but love fishing for just about anything, just about anywhere. I have worked on the boats out of San Diego but am now back in the desert. I have been hearing more and more about the different ways you guys catch trout in CA and am very interested in trying to take some of those methods and give them a whirl in AZ. After hearing about mini jigging and I was able to find some information but it seems to be hard to come by and not very clear.

Basically I either fish from shore or out of a float tube on mountain lakes. Its always been the same old stuff... powerbait, worms, corn, etc. and I am looking for ways to not only target big fish but just to change it up and see what happens. If anyone out there could give me some pointers on mini jigging or any other methods of trout fishing you find effectiver I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Went on tuesday 10/20 but the boat launch was closed to high winds. Need to get my weekly fishing trip in, so I woke up early the next morning (Wednesday 10/21) and head out. Got to Gallions and got my large Italian combo and headed up the hill to the lake. Here's how the day went:

This is the secret to catching fish. If you dont have this sandwich, you are not going to catch fish. This is considered kind of small. If Steve is making your sandwich the meat would be piled on 2x as much. This one is made by George, but it still delicious and big. Half for breakfast and half for lunch.

I woke up super early and still I am not first in line. One day I will beat all of them!

Here is how the day started out. Plug in my fish finder and found out it is not working. The cord near the transducer is cut. I know it is going to be a bad day. Now I can not rely on the fish finder to locate fish. Then I find I forgot my fish bait too! Ugh! Plan B was to troll all day and fish some ledges I had stored in my brain. Pull out trollers and got bit in less than 5 minutes.

These are the first two. They are being bled before transfer to the cooler. Pick up another one later on in troll but did not brother getting a picture. They all look the same.

Went to one of my morning ledges that I knew by heart. Threw out the plastics and boils on my rubber. No need to find boils when you got ledges like this. Added a few stripers to the bled bucket. Got a few nice size large mouth bass, but they were not the intended target.

After I got tired of all that plastic throwing, I went back on the troll. Not even one bite. Trolled up and down the lake. Happen to run into Dan (lowe boat) again. Chatted for a few and Dan gave me some rotten sardines =X.

Since trolling is not producing and I got a short amount of time before I head to work, I tried the bait and wait method. Instant Bendo on the first drop.

Caught a few of these and a few stripers on the rotting sardines!

Did one last drop and hit the jackpot. Took me about 40 minutes to bring this girl up on 6 lb test. I thought it rocked me or got caught up in my anchor line a few times, but it was just a big fish on the other end. Took my time and only gain line when she allowed me. While I was fighting the fish, Dan came by. Got the fish to the surface, but my net doesn't not fit! Dan got his big net and netted her for me. Barely fits in the net. Thanks Dan!

I did not know what I was going to do with her, but while driving back to the ramp, my conscious got to me. It such a beautiful old fish. It was just living all this time under this ledge, avoiding all these hooks line and sinker and wham...a jerk sob catches her. What a bad day for this sucker. I was having bad day early this morning, so I know how she felt. Called up mom and pops and told them about the catch. They agreed that it would be good karma points if I released her. I need all the good karma I can get! So I dumped out my cooler and added water. I wanted to go take one last picture then let her free.

Here is another shot of her. Her body was almost the size of the cooler!

Dan's estimate was 20 lbs. My estimate 200 lbs =).

I got my picture and went down to the boat launch to release her. Can you see how happy I am? Life guards were telling me to eat her! After a few revival tugs, she was ready to. Took off like a mean beefy shark. Wished her well and hope she doesn't run into another jerk sob.

Here is the parting striper slay shot. Easy fishing.

Thanks Dan for the rotting sardines and the net job. I owe you one.

Hope you all had fun fishing with me.
